Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

For childcare, we welcome children from 16 weeks to 6 years old. At specific locations, we also provide out-of-school care for 6 to 12 years old.

We have twelve centres in the Greater Edmonton Area, including one in Sherwood Park, one in St. Albert, and one in Spruce Grove. You can find all our locations listed here.

All Kepler Academy locations are open 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, except for statutory holidays and professional development days.

We offer part-time where we have availability to do so. However, all our locations are fully enrolled with a waiting list, so we are only able to offer full-time care due to high demand. Please inquire with our Client Experience Team at info@kepleracademy.ca or by calling 780-700-9427.

Children do not have to be potty-trained before they start childcare with us. We will work with families to help their child in the process of potty-training.

Yes, it is our policy that all children must be immunized following the Alberta Health Services (AHS) routine immunization schedule before starting group childcare with Kepler Academy. A copy of the immunization record is available through any Alberta Health Services Branch. We will ask to see proof of up-to-date immunizations.

Yes! We welcome all children and believe that inclusivity of children with exceptionalities is important. As we must ensure all children’s needs are met, we make every effort to accommodate children with diverse needs in providing a healthy and safe environment.

If we are unable to meet the needs of a child based on additional requirements or enhanced care (one on one), we may not be able to provide the necessary services without additional support from an external source.

Program Information

Kepler Academy is proud of our Exploratory Education™ approach to childcare. We believe that all children are born explorers, and we create an environment where this can be fostered in a safe and engaging way. The Exploratory Education™ approach focuses on an intentional mix of learning through play and an educational curriculum that promotes exploration and discovery. This holistic approach is meant to cater to a variety of early learning styles, as all children are unique.

Our Kepler Curriculum focuses on critical thinking skills, like the ability to make decisions spontaneously and problem-solve through various real-world experiences. We also base our curriculum and programming on the interests of the children in each classroom.

Learn more about the eight pillars of Exploratory Education™ here.

Kepler Academy provides educational childcare and out-of-school care. We implement a mix of learning-through-play (emergent activities based on your child’s interests) and an educational curriculum that promotes exploration and discovery of topics and materials. We are not necessarily “academic” but aim to provide a more structured, educational environment for your child.

Each center has a schedule for outdoor time. Classrooms will go outside 1-2 times a day, weather dependent. It is coordinated so that children are enjoying outdoor play time with children of the same, or similar, age range. You can ask the center director for center-specific information regarding their outdoor time schedule.

Yes, all our locations have an outdoor playground. You can explore our spaces on our virtual tours for each location.

Yes! We offer an engaging Summer Program throughout July and August for children attending Kindergarten to Grade 6. We plan explorative, fun weekly themes for children 3 years and up. For infants and toddlers, we plan bi-weekly summer themes as well.

Our policy is to guide children’s behaviors in a positive and supportive way.

Children are encouraged and guided to use their verbal and non-verbal communication skills to negotiate, and problem solve.

Natural and logical consequences will be applied to guide all children’s behaviour. For example, if a child is ripping pages out of a book or otherwise damaging a book we will discuss and demonstrate the proper use of books with the child. We will discuss the negative behaviour with the child by using open-ended questions to assist the child’s understanding of why the behaviour is not acceptable. Should the negative behaviour continue, the child will then be re-directed to another interest area.

Kepler Academy Educators will not:

  • Inflict, or cause to be inflicted, any form of physical punishment, verbal or physical degradation or emotional deprivation.
  • Deny or threaten to deny any necessities of the child’s wellbeing.
  • Use or permit the use of any form of physical restraint, confinement, or isolation.

Registration Information

When we contact you to offer a spot, we will offer to book a tour of the center. We do not accommodate walk-in tours due to the safety of our attending children and staff. If you’d like to get a feel for your desired center before a spot is offered, please view our virtual tours on each location’s webpage.

1)Waitlist

Joining our waitlist is easy and requires a $50 non-refundable payment. That waitlist fee gets applied to your registration fee when your child enrolls. You can join the waitlist online using our Waitlist Application Form; each location has a separate waitlist form. You can find the specific waitlist form for the location you’d like to join on that location’s page on our website.

Once paid, we add your child to the list on that date. Typically, we contact you within 4 -6 weeks before your desired start date, or a bit earlier where possible.

2)REGISTER

We will contact you by phone and/or email when we have an available spot to offer your child. We will wait to hear from you for 24-48 hours and will book a tour for you. To hold a spot available, simply fill out our Registration Forms and pay the registration fee and deposit (held in trust and applied to your last month of care). It is now “held” or “reserved” for your child’s start date. Before your child’s first day of care, we invite you for stay and play sessions

We try to get in contact with families leading up to their desired start date whether we will have an available spot. Generally, we know 4-6 weeks in advance when a new spot opens to offer to waitlist families.

Yes, you are more than welcome to join as many locations’ waitlists as you would like. You will have to pay the $50 waitlist fee each time, but the total amount you pay will be deducted from your registration fee when your child enrolls.

Yes, we allow families to transfer to another of our locations at no cost after they are enrolled at the original location, once we have an available spot at the new desired location.

Yes, you can add your unborn child to the waitlist. You can put the first name as ‘Baby’ and the child’s last name. The date of birth can be any date or the due date of the child. Please update us when the child is born with the correct name and birthdate.

Necessary items for all children include two complete sets of clothes, a pair of indoor, non-marking soled shoes, water bottle, and emergency medication, if applicable. Infants and toddlers require diapers or pull-ups, wipes, and any other necessities your family requires. Ask for a “What to Bring on Your First Day” checklist as part of your enrollment package. Please label all items with your child’s name.

Nutrition Program Information

Our supplementary fee covers all meals: morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. Each location has an on-site chef who prepares balanced, nutritious meals fresh daily. Our menu is on a 6-week rotational schedule and changes twice a year, so there is lots of variety.

Families can choose to opt-out of the meal plan but must sign and follow our Food From Home Policy.

Children are encouraged, but not required, to eat what is offered. Usually they will at least try it, especially if they observe other children eating. We will communicate with you if your child is struggling or not eating, as we want to ensure he/she will be well-fed during the day.

Yes, we are a nut-free facility and do not serve pork at any of our locations. If your child has any dietary allergies (eggs, dairy, gluten, etc.), please inform us immediately. If they have any dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, etc.) please inform us and we will substitute and accommodate wherever we can, within reason.

Families have the option to opt out of our meal plan, but they must sign and strictly follow our Food From Home Policy. As we serve many families with different allergies and dietary requirements, we monitor closely any food coming into our center. A copy of our policy is available upon request.

Financial Information

Please fill out the ‘Contact Us’ form and we will send you an email with our current rates and brochure!

Our supplementary fee rates include our nutritional meal plan and ensure an optimal mix of fruits and vegetables, grains, meat, and dairy serving throughout the day with a morning snack, a lunch, and an afternoon snack.

Our on-site activities like yoga, music/dance, and other programming opportunities for children are provided at no additional cost. We have a fitness instructor and music instructor who leads the children in engaging, age-appropriate activities.
